The short answer

Etsy charges three mandatory fees on a $25 sale: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee ($1.63), and 3% + $0.25 payment processing ($1.00). Total: $2.83, or 11.3% of the item price.

With shipping and item cost

Suppose the buyer pays $5 shipping, the item costs $8 to make, and shipping costs $4. Revenue is $30; Etsy fees are $0.20 + $1.95 + $1.15 = $3.30. Profit after costs is $14.70, a 49.0% margin.

The small-item trap

The $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing component are fixed. On a $10 item, those two alone are 4.5% of revenue before the percentage fees. On a $25 item, they are 1.8%. That is why low-priced digital downloads and stickers need bundles or higher average order values.

What Offsite Ads would add

If the $30 sale came from Etsy’s Offsite Ads, a 15% fee would add $4.50. Total fees become $7.80, and profit drops to $10.20. That can still be worthwhile if the sale would not have happened otherwise — but it should not be built into every listing price.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take on a $25 sale?

About $2.83: $0.20 listing + $1.63 transaction + $1.00 processing. That is 11.3% of the item price.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 processing fee are calculated on the item price plus shipping.

Are Etsy fees higher on cheaper items?

The percentage is the same, but the fixed fees ($0.20 listing and $0.25 processing) are a larger share of a low price, so the effective rate is higher.
