How Etsy fees work in 2026

Etsy’s fee stack has three mandatory layers and one optional layer:

  • $0.20 listing fee per item, charged when you list, renew every four months, or sell a unit from a multi-quantity listing.
  • 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap.
  • 3% + $0.25 payment processing (US) on the total the buyer pays.
  • Offsite Ads at 15%, or 12% for higher-volume shops, on sales attributed to Etsy’s external ads.

The transaction and processing fees apply to shipping, so “free shipping” does not reduce them — it just moves the shipping cost into the item price. On a $30 item with no separate shipping, the mandatory fees are about $3.30, an effective rate of roughly 11%.

Worked example: $50 item + $5 shipping

LineAmount
Item + shipping$55.00
Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)$3.58
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$1.90
Total fees$5.68
Net payout$49.32

That is 10.3% of the buyer’s total before item cost. If the sale came from Offsite Ads at 15%, add another $8.25 and the effective rate jumps to about 25%.

The small-item trap: the $0.25 processing fee and $0.20 listing fee are fixed. On a $10 item, those two alone are 4.5% of revenue before the percentage fees. Price low-value items with the flat fees in mind.

Offsite Ads: when it is worth it

Offsite Ads is only charged on attributed sales, so it is closer to a customer-acquisition cost than a platform fee. If the order would not have happened without the ad, a 12–15% fee can still be profitable — but it should be modelled separately from your organic margin. Set the Offsite Ads selector to zero when you want the organic number.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage does Etsy take in 2026?

Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 (US), and a $0.20 listing fee per item. Offsite Ads can add 12% or 15% on sales that come from Etsy’s external advertising.

Does Etsy charge its transaction fee on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee are calculated on the total amount the buyer pays, including shipping and gift wrap. Building shipping into the item price does not avoid the fee.

When does Offsite Ads apply?

Offsite Ads applies only to sales that Etsy attributes to its external advertising. Shops under $10,000 in trailing 12-month sales can opt out; shops above that threshold are enrolled automatically and cannot opt out. The fee is 15%, or 12% for higher-volume shops.

Is the Etsy Plus subscription included?

No. Etsy Plus is an optional $10/month subscription with listing credits and shop customization. It is a fixed monthly cost, not a per-sale fee, so it is not deducted in the per-sale result.
